KNOXVILLE, TN, August 14, 2024 – Public Services and Procurement Canada, on behalf of the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), has awarded The Character Group, LLC dba Perceptics a contract to provide updated license plate recognition (LPR) and radio frequency identification (RFID) lane equipment for their land ports of entry. The contract was awarded following a competitive solicitation process and marks a continuation of an over two-decade long partnership between Perceptics and CBSA.
CBSA has long used LPR and RFID technology to facilitate operations at primary inspection points. LPR technology captures license plate information as vehicles approach the inspection booth while RFID readers capture data from RFID-enabled documents to support traveler and commercial processing.
“We are pleased that Perceptics has been selected to continue to support the mission of the Canada Border Services Agency, supporting national security and public safety priorities through providing high-performing vehicle identification solutions,” said Perceptics President, Jake Kissel. “I can confidently say that every Perceptics employee is excited to provide the highest performing vehicle identification system available to Canada.”
Perceptics will supply updated 8th generation LPR cameras and RFID technology to streamline the flow of people and goods through Canadian land ports of entry.
In addition to equipment installation, Perceptics will provide training, maintenance and support for the ongoing upkeep of the lanes for three years as specified in the contract with the option to extend support in one-year intervals for six additional years.
